Seattle grew quickly after World War II and the suburbs began to expand. Spurring this growth were the veterans and industrial workers who had come to help with the war effort. Although the early century Craftsman Bungalow is by far the most common style of home in North Seattle, there are several pockets that have a distinctively Modern sensibility.

Neighborhoods like Wedgwood, Hawthorne Hills, and View Ridge were largely developed post-war, and contain a large number of modern gems. View Ridge, as the name would imply, offers stellar views of Lake Washington and the community of Inverness is a "Hilltop-like" neighborhood off of Sand Point Way with underground utilities , covenants to protect views and easy access to the Burke Gilman Trail.

The area is large, spanning north of the ship canal and east-west between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, with many diverse communities. The full range of housing can be found here, from the entry-level "affordable" modern home of Shoreline to the grandest, most elegant design by Roland Terry in Highland Park.
